Writing about yourself is always a tricky thing. On the one hand, I want to be able to share a piece of me with others, and I really enjoy the writing process when I relax about it. On the other hand, the world is too full of people with too much time on their hands and way too much to say. My goal is to land somewhere in the middle. I want to entertain, but I also want to deliver useful information. Let's see what happens.
The picture is myself and my beautiful wife Shawn. Shawn is my everything, and we have been married for twenty-seven extraordinary years. We've lived in Western North Carolina since 2017 with our two kids Norah and Tadhg. I grew up and spent the first forty-seven years of life in Northwest Indiana about an hour from Chicago. Winters, ugly scenery, and precious little to do outside caused us to flee; I mean move.
The main topic of my writing has always been West Cork, Ireland. It's a special place I've been blessed with traveling to since 1974. For those of you trying to do the math, that's quite a long time. The connection to West Cork came through my ancestors to my grandparents to my parents and on to me. Shawn and I are doing our best to drive this connection into Norah and Tadhg as well.
I'm also going to write about other parts of life as well. I love writing "in the moment" while emotions and experiences are still fresh in my mind. The lessons of life can be found here. I'd also like to share travel experiences of places other than West Cork. When I travel, I run from the crowd. Maybe I'll have that bit of goodness you're trying to find.
